Best Ways to Pack for a move

1

Pack Similar Things Together

No matter how much you want to throw everything you take out from a kitchen cabinet into the same box, don’t do it. If you pack all the spoons and plates in different boxes, it will be a very difficult task to find everything from each box after moving. When you are packing items from the kitchen, lay everything on the dining table.

Count and separate like things from each other. If you are packing spoons, pack all the spoons in one box, all the similar plates in the same box if you have space, and mention what’s inside the box. Packing similar things makes organization easier and saves you from losing your mind when searching for stuff.

Plan the Move

If you are moving to another house in the same city, you might not have to take packing too seriously. Some newspapers, towels, and bubble wrap inside the crockery and decoration pieces will keep them safe. But if you are moving to another city and your furniture and the boxes will be traveling on the road for more than 4 hours, you will have to pack everything carefully or hire professionals to safely deliver everything to your new house.

Throw Away Things You Don't Need

There is always stuff lying around the house that you haven’t used in years. A good rule of thumb for cleaning space is to get rid of anything that you haven’t used in a year because you would probably never need it again.

Donate boxes of old clothes and shoes that you haven’t used. Less stuff is easier to pack and move. Deep clean your space and pack the things you won’t need and get rid of them before you begin packing for moving out.

Make an Open First Box

The ‘open first’ box should include things that you will need right away after moving out. Pack your tooth-brush, soap, favorite mug, a book that you are reading, and night suit individually and put them in this box. You don’t want to be opening every box to look for these items, right?

Rent a Moving Dolly

If you are dealing with a lot of heavy boxes and furniture and moving them around the house by yourself, consider buying a moving dolly. If you know the guy at the local grocery store, ask them if you could borrow a dolly from them. You can also buy or rent a dolly. Search for it on Facebook Marketplace or Amazon. A moving dolly can help you move the boxes around because you won’t have to carry everything.

Start as Early as Possible

If you don’t want to lose your mind in the last week of moving out, start packing early. Start as early as one and a half month before moving out so that you can pack at your own pace whenever you have time for it.

Begin to pack the seasonal items and things that you are not using such as a nice dinner set you rarely use and decoration pieces. This will save you from a lot of stress and panic.

Valuable and Important Items

If you eat any medicines, pack them in your handbag and keep them with you at all times. Put your phone, laptop and other devices in a bag and take it to the next house in your car.

Keep your jewelry and other valuables in your handbag as well. If you are afraid of losing things, ask a friend to take care of them or drop them at their house before the last day.
