Prepare a routine for your pup
Much like babies, a regular schedule is ideal for puppies to do their best. You need to teach him, one day at a time, that there is a time to eat, time to play, and a time to do his business.
As a general rule, puppies can control their bladder for an hour for each month of age. If your pooch is about 3 months old, he’ll be able to hold out for up to 3 hours at best. If you don’t take a 3-month old pup for a bathroom break for over 3 hours, an accident is pretty much certain.
Use a crate
One of the best ways to potty train your puppy is by using a crate. Aside from giving your puppy a space that is all their own, using a crate is also a good way for your puppy to learn where they should and shouldn't go to the bathroom. In order to keep their crate clean, your pup will scratch at their crate door when they need to go to the bathroom. Make sure you let them out right away to avoid them making a mess in their crate. This might make them think it's okay to potty in their home. 
Puppy pads
Using a puppy pad can be really helpful for pups with owners who spend most of their day at work. It can also work for dogs who live in places with extreme outdoor climates. It gives them a place where they know they can go to the bathroom if they need to. You can also make the transition from the puppy pads to outdoors if you choose to later on.
