Toast them before boiling

Toast your rice prior to boiling them. Use olive oil or butter to toast dry rice grains, and then add water. This will bring the flavor out, and also add a hint of nuttiness to the final recipe. Make sure you don’t toast too much, though. That will do more harm than good.

A hint of salt and garlic

Here’s something that will make your mouth water. Add some butter, parmesan cheese, peas, cinnamon, and brown sugar. These are easy stir-ins. Also, put some toasted sesame seeds into your plain white rice for added flavor. Don’t forget to add a hint of salt and some onion and garlic. It will immediately turn into something entirely different. A great family time at the dinner table is guaranteed.

Can't go wrong with veggies

If you’re like me and enjoy a little ethnic flair then here’s something you should definitely try out. It’s equal parts healthy and flavorful. And doesn’t even involve many ingredients. Add some salt, onion, garlic, tomato sauce to your plain rice. Let that soak in before you put in some vegetable or chicken. You can also add frozen mixed vegetables with rice. This is such a healthy alternative and adds so much nutrient value to your daily diet.

Fry them

I like to throw in all the veggies that I can find lying around the house, that go well with a flavorful rice recipe. Most commonly, I use cauliflower, green peas, green chili (use only if tolerable for you), bell peppers, and green onions. You may also want to judge how many or how much of these vegetables you add based on the quantity of the rice. I aim for 20% veggies, 80% rice.

Then, add some oil in a pan, and add garlic paste and asafetida, then the veggies. I also add cumin seeds, curry leaves, and dried chilies (I LOVE spicy food). Sauté them and add plain rice. Add chili powder (yes, I know!), turmeric (only a tad), and some coriander powder. Stir well until fried adequately. Garnish with coriander leaves, and serve.
