Best Ways to Rest your eyes

1

Blink more often

When you look at your computer or TV screen for extended durations, it dries your eyes out, which then leads to headaches, blurry vision, and eye strain.

When you’re absorbed into what’s happening on the screen, the blink rate of your eyes drops from 20 blinks/minute to just about 6-8 blinks/minute.

The next time you’re working with a screen and feel strain in your eyes, try to blink more to lubricate your eyes and refresh your brain so it can process the visual data with increased efficiency.

Trace an eight

You can improve your eye's flexibility and vision by doing this exercise. Visualize an 8 at least 10 feet away from where you are. Visualize it at your eye level. Now rotate the 8 figure by 180 degrees and trace the imaginary figure with your eyes. Slowly sketch figure 8 for a few minutes. Do it clockwise and then anti-clockwise. Be persevering and it will clear your vision and rest your eyes.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule

To prevent your eyes from getting tired, use this technique. It is efficient if your job requires you to be on the screen for long hours. Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes and focus on something that is located at least 20 feet away from you. This helps with eye strain and prevents digital eye damage in the long run.

Take a break

If you’ve been working for a long time, your eyes may need a break from focusing on one thing for so long. You may not even notice how strained your eyes are until you close them for a few minutes. This doesn’t mean you should go pick up your phone and lay on the couch. Take a break from all screens and all reading for a few minutes. This will give you a chance to recharge and help your eyes rest before heading back to work.

Invest in blue light glasses

If you work in front of a screen for long periods of time, you may suffer from eye strain due to the harsh light of your electronics. If you suffer from painful headaches after hours at the computer, invest in a pair of blue light glasses. These have made a world of difference from me. My blue light glasses help me to continue working without hurting my eyesight. They also help me stay concentrated for longer periods of time.

Focus on objects near and far

Hold one of your thumbs close up and the other thumb at your arm's length. Now start by focusing on the thumb, then shift your gaze to the thumb at arm's length. Now, look at something that is around 10 feet away from you and then gazes far away on the road or at the end of your vision. Continue doing this and make sure that your four points of objects are in the straight line. Spend two seconds on every object and try to obtain a clear image of every item.

Palm for relaxed vision

This is a highly effective way of taking care of your eyes and it works well for relaxation as well. Use it every time you feel your eyes are tired and worn out. All you need to do is cup your hands over your eyes and give a little pressure on them. For better effect, rub your hands together for 5-10 seconds and then place it on your eyes.

Keep your eyes closed and stare into the dark space while focusing on the distance. Hold the pressure till you see actual residuals fade into black color. Do this exercise for at least 30 seconds whenever your eyes get tired.

Roll your eyes

Slowly roll your eyes to the right and then shift your gaze to the left. Continue doing this in the opposite direction as well. Then move your gaze in every direction by looking from right to left and then up and down. Repeat this process 10 times and it will help your eyes.
