Best Ways to Relieve tension in neck

1

Cat and Cow Pose

To relieve the neck and shoulder tension and pain, the cat and cow pose of yoga is the most effective. The poses are done together to relieve the tension.

To perform the pose, on a yoga mat, get on all four. Keep your back straight and then start to bend it lower as much as you can while looking forward and upward. Hold the pose for 30 seconds and then lift your back and shoulders upward.

You should now be looking at the mat with a curved and stretched neck, your whole body making an inverted U on the ground. Hold the pose for 30 seconds and then let go. You can repeat it a few times to really target that stiffness and tension.

Yoga

Yoga can improve your posture and help you stay active and healthy. After a tense day of work, instead of landing on your bed or couch, do a few relaxing yoga poses.

The baby pose is the best relaxing pose for the shoulders, neck, and back. To do a baby pose sit on the yoga mat on your legs folded in and keep a straight back. Extend your arms outward and lay the arms on the ground, in front of you. Your forehead should be touching the ground and it all should be very relaxing.

The pose can help you feel grounded and relaxed.

Relax

The most common cause of neck and shoulder pain is tiredness. The ache begins to appear when you have been involved in strenuous physical activity, or have been working late hours. To get rid of the soaring pain, it is vital to have rest. Sleep early and give your body ample time to heal. Minor pain should go away, the next morning.

Ice your pain

One of the best ways to relieve tension in your neck is by using ice to help reduce any swelling that may be causing you pain. If you think you may be stiff from an injury, use ice for the first 24-48 hours after you being feeling pain. Use a towel or napkin to cover the ice pack so that you don’t irritate your skin. If you don’t have an ice pack, put some ice cubes in a ziplock bag.

Use heat for soreness

After you’ve iced your neck for the pain, you can use heat to help your muscles relax. The heat helps loosen tight muscles and reduces stiffness that can cause further pain. You can apply heat directly to your neck with a heating pad. You can also use hot water to help with the soreness. Warm showers or baths can be very beneficial in relieving tension overall. Let the hot water hit your neck to feel some relief.

Stretch it out

Having tension in your neck can be extremely painful and can oftentimes make it hard to live your day to day life. If you wake up with an ache in your neck, stretch it out slowly and gently to try and relieve some of that tension. Roll your head around in slow circles both clockwise and counterclockwise. You can also try letting your chin fall forward towards your chest and resting your hands on the back of your head. The weight of your hands will pull your head forward, giving your neck a gentle stretch.

Massage

Ask your partner or friend to give you a neck massage, if you have shoulder and neck tension. Use lavender or your favorite essential oil to relax and elevate your mode as well. Massage in gentle up and down movements or rotatory movements to relieve neck pain. For shoulders, do the finger pressure technique to gently press the pressure points and get the knots to open.

Always use a comfortable spot for a massage. You can sit on a chair with a backrest or lie on your stomach.

Stretch

If you have got a tech neck because of an uneasy posture while working at the desk, you should try some neck stretches to relieve the pain. The neck stretches also keep the muscles relaxed and avoid tension from building up.

Keep your back straight and your chin up at a natural height. Slowly bend your neck to the right and then bend forward. Keep your back straight and repeat on the other side. This should help relieve the pain in the neck and shoulders. Doing the neck stretches a few times a day can also help strengthen the neck muscles.
