Sincere compliments are more impactful than an exaggerated compliment. For example, don’t say, “You’re the prettiest girl in the whole wide world.” Because your girlfriend has probably seen Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie, she knows you’re just saying that.
If you want to genuinely complement your girlfriend, say something that you actually believe. Maybe you like her eyes, tell her, “Your eyes take my breath away.”
Show her that you are surprised to look at something she did. It shows that you adore her creativity. When you see her make a DIY box or cook something delicious, ask her how she made it. She’ll happily explain that to you. Don’t overdo the compliment by acting shocked and then ignoring the creative product the next moment.
When you’re complimenting your girlfriend, ensure that you do it succinctly. Blabbering on and on about the same thing might distract her from the real compliment.
For example, tell her, “You were so wonderful out there on the stage,” and then move on to other things. Any unnecessary commentary might make her forget about your compliment, so always remember that a compliment must be short and sweet.
Saying things like “You’re pretty” or “You’re smart” is fine every once in a while, but if you’re really trying to make your girl feel good about something with a compliment, make sure you say something very specific and unique. It will communicate to her that you value her and care about what she does.
You can also complement your girl’s failures, sometimes those work better. For example, if she lost a dance competition, tell her, “Your efforts were commendable, honey. You’ll come back stronger next time with what you learned this time and win. You deserve that trophy.”
